Ever since the news broke that Buildertrend acquired CoConstruct, there has been some uncertainty among home builders and remodelers that use these construction management solutions in their business.
With significant price hikes and the announcement that CoConstruct will no longer be supported, it's easy to understand why many customers are left wondering if they should continue using Buildertrend.
As we’ve witnessed here at BuildBook, these concerns, along with ongoing frustrations with the software, have led many Buildertrend customers to look for an alternative.
To help guide those who are looking to cancel their Buildertrend account and transition to a faster, cheaper, and easier-to-use construction management platform, we’ve surfaced the fine print and outlined the steps that will save you time, money, and the headache of moving from one platform to the next.
Preparing to cancel your Buildertrend account
Before contacting Buildertrend to cancel your account, there are a few things that you should do first:
- Determine your renewal date
Whether you signed up for a monthly or annual plan, your subscription will automatically renew for an additional contract period on your renewal date. Most often, your renewal date is the same day of the month you originally signed up on. For an annual subscription, it will be the same month and day as the previous year.
According to Buildertrend’s Terms and Conditions, once your subscription renews, they will not issue you a refund, even if you’ve missed it by just one day.
- Export your customer and project data
You don’t want to leave all of your leads, customer, and project history behind, so make sure that you’re able to export all of that data before you cancel and lose access to your Buildertrend account.
If you end up losing access before having a chance to export the data yourself, Buildertrend states on their Terms and Conditions that they can help you extract that data for a fee for up to one year after your subscription ends.
- Move any new projects to your new construction management tool ahead of time
If you have any projects that are set to kick off before or shortly after canceling your Buildertrend account, it’s best to get them started in the new system to prevent any confusion or delays for your clients.
While this means that you’ll need to be going between both platforms for a short period of time, it will make the transition smoother and provide you and your team with an opportunity to get familiar with the new platform.
- Notify your team and clients of the upcoming change
In order to keep things in your business moving forward during the transition, you’ll want to consider notifying your team and clients about the upcoming change ahead of time.
Not only does this give them time to prepare, but it also provides you with an opportunity to explain how the new platform will improve their job and experience.
3 steps to cancel your Buildertrend account
Once you’re done with the steps above and you’re ready to officially cancel your account, here are the steps you need to take:
- Email your Buildertrend customer success representative if you have one or send an email to support@buildertrend.com to notify them that you’d like to cancel your account before your subscription renews.
Note: According to Buildertrend, the email needs to be sent from an administrator on the account.
- Complete the Account Change Request Form. After emailing your cancellation request, you’ll be sent a form that must be completed and returned to the Buildertrend representative.
Buildertrend Terms & Conditions state, “A cancellation is not effective until the Administrator submits the Account Change Request Form and the Administrator confirms the cancellation with a Buildertrend representative via email or phone.”
- Confirm that your account has been canceled. After submitting the form, you should receive a confirmation that your account has been canceled. If you don’t receive confirmation, reach back out immediately to ask for a record of your cancellation.
