As we highlighted in a previous article, and others have shared as well, cancelling your Houzz Pro advertising account can be quite challenging - even costing you more in some cases.

But, what if you want to cancel your Houzz Pro Software subscription? Is that just as challenging?

One of many customer complaints filed against Houzz with the Better Business Bureau

These questions and concerns may be leading home builders and remodelers in search of an alternative.

To help guide those who are looking to cancel their Houzz Pro Software subscription and transition to a new construction management platform, we’ve identified the fine print and outlined steps to cancel Houzz Pro that will save you time, money, and headache.

Preparing to cancel your Houzz Pro account

Before contacting Houzz to cancel your Houzz Pro account, there are a few things that you should do first:

  1. Determine your renewal date

Whether you signed up for a monthly or annual plan, your subscription will automatically renew for an additional contract period on your next renewal date. In most situations, your renewal date is the same day of the month you originally signed up on. For an annual subscription, it will be the same month and day as the previous year.

According to the Houzz Pro Service Agreement, you must submit your request to cancel your Houzz subscription at least 30 days before the date of your next renewal.

  1. Export your client and project data

You don’t want to leave all of your client and project data behind, so make sure that you export all of that data before you cancel Houzz and lose access to your Houzz Pro account.

Section 5(d) in the Houzz Pro Service Agreement states, “In the event of any termination, Customer will immediately cease all access and use of the Services, and Houzz will immediately cease providing the Services.

This section also states that Houzz will retain a copy of the customer business data for 90 days after cancellation and that a customer can request a copy, “To the extent Houzz has a copy of the Customer Business Data, Customer may request a copy of the Customer Business Data and Houzz will provide a copy of that data to the Administrator for Customer’s account in excel format.

  2. Move any new or existing projects to your new construction management tool ahead of time

If you have any projects that are underway or set to kick off, it’s best to get them started in the new system to prevent any confusion or delays for your team and clients.

While this might mean that you’ll need to be going between both platforms for a short period of time, it will make the transition smoother and provide you and your team with an opportunity to get familiar with the new platform.

  3. Notify your team and clients of the upcoming change

In order to keep things in your business moving forward during the transition, you’ll want to consider notifying your team and clients about the upcoming change ahead of time.

Not only does this give them time to prepare, but it also provides you with an opportunity to explain your reason for cancelling Houzz and how the new platform will improve their job and experience.

The steps to cancelling your Houzz Pro account

Once you’re done with the steps above and you’re ready to officially cancel Houzz, here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Email Houzz at least 30 days before your subscription renews. According to section 5(a) of the Houzz Pro Service Agreement, “Customer must email Houzz at pronotices@houzz.com and follow the instructions provided by Houzz in order for Houzz to process the non-renewal notice correctly.

If you’re on a month-to-month subscription, keep in mind that a 30 day notice means you’ll need to email your request to cancel Houzz no later than the renewal date of the last month you plan to use their service in order to not be charged for an additional month.

Note: It’s unclear from their Terms and Conditions what further instructions will be provided by Houzz that need to be followed in order to process the cancellation, so just be prepared to respond accordingly.

  2. Confirm that your account has been cancelled. After requesting your cancellation, you should receive a written confirmation that your request has been received and your account is being cancelled. If you don’t receive confirmation, reach back out immediately to ask for a record of your cancellation.

  3. Request for your data to be deleted. This step is optional for anyone that prefers that their data not be retained by Houzz. According to their Privacy Policy, you can request that your data is removed by sending an email to privacy@houzz.com.
